A Young Engineers Holiday Camp provides children with a fun and exciting way to explore science and engineering during their holidays.

Our sessions mix building of  complex machines using LEGO with time outside and playing games all with the aim of  learning about scientific and engineering principles.

Summer Camps

In the summer of 2018 we will offer a range of camps for children aged 3 to 13.  In addition to our own camps we are also working in partnership with Edinburgh Academy offering 2 weeks of camp in central Edinburgh.

Big Builders Camps – Ages 3 to 5

Big Builders camps are for children aged 3 to 5. These 3 hour sessions explore a different theme each day and mix story telling with KNEX building, science experiments and art. All children must have passed their 3rd birthday at the time of their attendance.

Sessions will run from 10am to 1pm at the following venues:

 

  • 2-6 July:Cramond Kirk Halls –> Monday to Wednesday full. Very limited spaces Thursday & Friday
  • 9-13 July: Meggetland 
  • 16-20 July: Kirkcaldy Hayfield Community Centre 
  • 30 July – 3 Aug:Edinburgh Academy (9am to 12pm)

Price: £85 pp per week or £20 per day

Daily Themes

  • Monday: Dinosaur Adventures
  • Tuesday: A Journey through Space
  • Wednesday: Under the Sea
  • Thursday: Buildings & Bridges
  • Friday: Gears and Machines

Bricks Challenge Camps – Ages 6 to 10

Our Bricks Challenge camps mix LEGO building and Design Challenges to encourage problem solving and creativity in the area of Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths. Sessions run for 6 hours with the mornings spent introducing our theme for the day and building a moving LEGO model. Afternoons are focused on team design challenges where children use a range of materials to solve a problem aligned to our daily theme. Finally all children make something to take home each day to explain what they have done.

Sessions will run from 10 until 4pm at the following venues:

  • 2-6 July: Cramond Kirk Halls
  • 9-13 July: Meggetland
  • 16-20 July: Kirkcaldy Hayfield Community Centre 
  • 23-27 July:Dunfermline Carnegie Hall 
  • 30 July – 3 Aug:Edinburgh Academy (9am to 3pm) THIS CAMP IS NOW FULLY BOOKED
  • 6-10 Aug: Edinburgh Academy (9am to 3pm)

Price: £175 pp per week or £40 per day

Daily Themes

  • Monday: Water – exploring the power of water with water wheels, obstacle courses and waterfalls
  • Tuesday: Unpowered movement learning how machines move using a variety of energy conversions
  • Wednesday: Earthquakes and Structures learn how to keep your town safe, how vibration impacts materials and challenge yourself to avoid the quake!
  • Thursday: Spying & Codes. Are you the next 007?! Learn how to develop a secret code, make your own invisible ink and find out how to write coded instructions for your lego man.
  • Friday: The Human Body exploring our heart as a pump, understanding our joints and how we tell our muscles to move

West Lothian

Our West Lothian camps will run 9am to 1pm

  • 13 -17 Aug: East Calder Kirk Church Hall

Summer Workshops Ages 6 to 10

We are running two summer workshops to introduce our new venues for August. These 3 hour sessions will introduce children to Young Engineers activities and will include and experiment, building a moving LEGO model to enhance understanding of a technical concept and a certificate for attendance.

Workshops are being held as follows:

  • Wednesday July 18th Fairmilehead Parish Church, 1a Frogston Rd W, Edinburgh EH10 7AA in the Frogston Hall Room 9am to 12pm
  • Thursday July 19th: North Merchiston Club 48 Watson Cres, Edinburgh EH11 1EP from 9am to 12pm
  • Friday July 20th: Oxgangs Library 343 Oxgangs Rd N, Edinburgh EH13 9LY, from 12pm to 3pm

Sessions are £20pp

Robotics & Electronics Camp – Ages 10 to 13

Our Robotics & Electronics Camp is aimed at 10 to 13 year olds and will run in partnership with Edinburgh Academy.

We will mix building a robot with understanding how to define requirements, develop code, test our hypothesis and demonstrate our results.

Children interested in programming who enjoy working in teams to develop their own solutions to technical problems will find this camp particularly enjoyable.

Sessions will run from 9am until 3pm as follows:
